With an objective to provide a platform for open house discussion between Central and State Governments and private sector investors, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the National Conference: Medical & Wellness Tourism in India on July 26, 2013; PHD House, New Delhi

The conference was aimed at showcasing India as a Medical and Wellness Tourism destination on the basis of the infrastructure and opportunities available, as well as, to provide a platform for meaningful discussion between the Central and State governments; and the medical and wellness tourism fraternity regarding issues and opportunities affecting the industry in the country.

The gathering saw an open house discussion regarding issues and challenges affecting the growth of Medical tourism and the Wellness sector in the country. Present at the Inaugural Session were Mr. Parvez Dewan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India; H.E. Mr. Ndubuisi Vitus Amaku, High Commissioner of Nigeria to India; H.E. Dr. Arye Kumar Jagessur, High Commissioner of Mauritius to India; Mr. P. P. Shrivastav, IAS (Retd.), Member, North Eastern Council; Mr. Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, IAS, Additional Secretary (Foreigners), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; Mr. Tushar Pandey, Senior President, Yes Bank; Mr. Suman Jyoti Khaitan, President, PHD Chamber; Mr. Alok B. Shriram, Vice-President, PHD Chamber; Mr. Rajiv Vij, Co-Chairman, Tourism Committee.

The PHD – Yes Bank Knowledge Report “Medical & Wellness Tourism in India -The Next Growth Orbit’’ was released by Mr. Parvez Dewan, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and other dignitaries, at the Inaugural Session.

The noted speakers at the First  Panel Discussion ‘Bird Eye View on Medical & Wellness Tourism in India’ were: Dr. Vishwas Mehta, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Mr. Anil Ganeriwala, IFS, Joint Secretary, Department of Ayush, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India; Mr. P. V. Sivaraman, Director (Foreigners), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India; Dr. R. Kannan, IAS, Principal Secretary (Tourism), Culture & RE, Government of Tamil Nadu;  Dr. Janice Darbari, Consul General, Embassy of Montenegro; Mr. Joseph Kabakeza, First Counsellor, High Commission of the Republic of Rwanda; Mr. Sayed Mujtaba Ahmadi, Economic Counselor of Afghanistan Embassy. The Panel Discussion was moderated by Mr. Pramit Pal Chaudhuri, Foreign Editor, Hindustan Times.
